CATCH BY DAY. LUXURY BY NIGHT.
Offshore game fishing, done properly
Shore Thing 58 is a custom 58ft Assegai sportfisher. She was built in Australia in 2020 and fully refitted in 2025. She’s built to reach remote water without giving up comfort or fishability.
She follows the marlin. From September to December she fishes the Ribbon Reefs off Cairns for giant black marlin. From mid-December she’s on the Gold Coast, chasing blue, black and striped marlin offshore.
She’s skippered by Captain Daniel Klein of Pursuit of Giants Game Fishing, one of the most experienced marlin captains on the reef.
First-timers, families and experienced anglers all fish with us. Whatever your level, you’re in expert hands from cast to catch.

Where and When We Fish
Cairns and the Great Barrier Reef (September to December)
The 150-mile stretch of reef between Cairns and Lizard Island holds the biggest black marlin on the planet. Every season they gather along the Ribbon Reefs, and we’re there for it.
- Giant black marlin: five-day-plus liveaboard trips on the Ribbon Reefs, fishing out of Cairns, Cooktown and Lizard Island.
- Mothershipping: stay out longer, with Shore Thing 115 as your mothership. Fish all day, then come back to space, comfort and chef-prepared meals.
Gold Coast (from mid-December)
When the reef season ends, Shore Thing 58 heads home to the Gold Coast. These waters hold blue, black and striped marlin, so a marlin grand slam (all three species in one day) is a real possibility.
- Light tackle black marlin: juvenile black marlin arrive on the inshore grounds over summer. They’re fast, acrobatic and great fun on light gear, for any experience level.
- Blue, black and striped marlin: offshore heavy tackle fishing for bigger blacks, stripes and blues.
- Pelagic and reef fishing: yellowfin tuna, mahi mahi and wahoo, plus snapper, pearl perch, tuskfish, amberjack and Samson fish on the deep reefs.
- Broadwater cruises: calm, sheltered water for up to 12 guests. Ideal for families and a relaxed day out.
A captain who knows these waters
Daniel started fishing as a kid with his grandfather, then moved into game fishing with his dad Ken through the Sydney Game Fishing Club.
He spent 10 years on deck under respected captains Kim Andersen, Chris “Sharky” Miles and Corey Hard. In that time he was part of a 1,324lb and a 1,177lb black marlin, both landmark fish in Australian game fishing.
As captain, he’s had an 8-blue-marlin day off Port Stephens and several 7-black-marlin days on the Great Barrier Reef. He also has tournament wins up and down the east coast.
Daniel has fished 18 consecutive seasons on the reef and has been President of the Cairns Professional Game Fishing Association since 2025. He holds a Master V and MED1, and he’s a qualified marine mechanic. If something breaks at sea, he fixes it.
His connection to Shore Thing 58 goes back further than most. He helped shape her build when she was still Deploy. He doesn’t just run her. He knows her.
